Australians’ love affair with tech products remains unabated with buyers snapping up video games and other geek items from giant online retailer

Since launching a week ago in Australia, Amazon said that eight out of its top10 items sold were tech-related.

Topping the list were video games FIFA 18PSA followed by Call of Duty:WW2PS4 and Star Wars Battlefront 11PS4.

In fourth place was Nintendo Switch – Neon Blue and Red Joy-Con, then 3M HDMI Cable and Wireless Bluetooth Speaker.

Old fashioned books were also among the top 10 best sellers with Australian author, Scott Page’s The Barefoot Investor coming in at seventh place and Jamie Oliver’s 5 Ingredients – Quick & Easy Food in eight position.

Star Wars Battlefront II Xbox One took ninth place and Nintendo Switch – Gray Joy-Con in tenth position.

With the world movie premiere of The Last Jedi this week, Star Wars related products including Rogue One: A Star Wars Story CD and the Star Wars Death Star 3D Led Lamp recorded strong sales.

“In the run-up to Christmas, it is not surprising to see video games featuring prominently in the top ten,’’ said Rocco Braeuniger, country manager of Amazon Australia.

“Outside of the top ten, Australians have been buying everything from daily essentials including nappies and socks to bigger purchases such as wearable tech and cameras,’’ he added.

Buyers from NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, WA and SA bought tech items in the top five best selling products while those living in Tasmania and NT bucked the trend, choosing to buy books, makeup and household goods instead.

Amazon offers free delivery of products for orders above $49.
